Lying down

9 poses

Lying poses on the back, front and side: arms overhead, chin resting on hands, knees raised, feet up. Each is drawn from five angles, including views from above that show the full silhouette.

Includes: lie · lying · reclining

Drawing tips

  • Gravity flattens the body against the floor; draw the contact line before the rest of the figure.
  • In side lying the hip and shoulder take the weight and the waist curves up between them.
  • Plan the camera height: a low angle on a lying figure foreshortens it heavily toward the viewer.
